The other day I tweeted? Twittered? Tweetered? whatever, that I was eating crackers with peanut butter and dill pickles.
The ever hilarious Crabgrass commented back asking if I was knocked up.
The answer to which, is THANK GOD, No. Hell no. HELL TO THE HELL NO.
I just like weird food.
I blame my dad. When I was ten my mother went back to graduate school and that left my father in charge. It also left us pretty broke. Anyone who's been broke knows that you eat whatever is on sale and sometimes? That means that what you eat is kind of odd. Also, my dad is kind of odd, so that could have something to do with it.
Among the food combinations that I recall from my childhood are;
* chicken "lunch meat" with peanut butter
* tuna salad with peas/lima beans/corn mixed in
* peanut butter & dill pickle sandwiches
* breakfast sausage and white rice casserole (a favorite)
* corn on the cob with mayo
* pizza dipped in mayo (hmmm and I wonder why I have a big ass!)
* "Hobo casserole" (whatever noodles, meat and sauce you can find - usually hamburger, elbow noodles and spaghetti sauce)
* Spaghetti sauce omelette's
I could go on and on, but those are the ones that I can think of that I liked. I'm sure there were others that I hated and have thusly blocked from my memory. Like Meatloaf. ENDLESS DAYS AND NIGHTS OF MEATLOAF. With ketchup on top, which I hate. Although, that said, I do enjoy a meatloaf sandwich. Mmmmm meatloaf on white bread with mayo, glorious mayo.
So tell me, what was is something odd that you used to eat that just says home to you?

And I thought my food choices were weird, but you win! I put miracle whip on my grilled cheese and dip my pizza in ranch...that's about as weird as my food choices go. hubby puts ketchup on his eggs and macaroni and cheese.
I do all of what KAErk does......those don't seem weird.
My Grandmother would smash up pinto beans and cornbread and pour sweet pickle juice on the mush and give it to all the grandkids. I still love it and I'd bet my cousins do too...
may be whats for dinner tonight
All I have to say is you need to try mac 'n' cheese and sweet peas! SOO GOOODDDD!!!!

hotdog pancakes.
Spam casserole. Chunks of spam with sliced, canned potatoes and the cheese packets from boxed mac and cheese. Topped with the melted butter/Italian breadcrumbs combo.
I make it once in a while, but with real ham. It reminds me of rainy autumn nights camping. The windows on the trailer would steam up and we'd feel all warm and toasty.
Yes, we "camped" with a real kitchen. And a full bathroom!
I take my grilled cheese and break it into little bitesize pieces then each piece gets a dill pickle slice and ketchup.
Plus, french fries dipped in soft serve vanilla ice cream.
YUM!
1. Bologna sandwich on buttered bread.
2. Fried egg and miracle whip sandwich.
3. Scrambled eggs with salt and ketchup.
4. Fried trail bologna and onions dipped in french onion chip dip.
Damn, I don't have ANY of these in the house right now.
Peanut Butter and Bacon sandwich. Try it, you'll like it.
